News: Alright, thanks for your patience! The API got all screwed up 'cause of this major update, buuuut... I got all your goodies now. We got all the daily and weekly shit updated, as well as Spider's Korner.
We got a week until Black Armory and a new season of Crucible/Gambit/Strikes has started. I'll be working my way toward Mountain Top, hbu?
How to get a Rat King
First you have to get a bunch of rats, next make sure your rabbis vaccination is up to day (if you’re an anti-vaxxer, go home and learn sum science!), then carefully tie all the rats tails together… If you don’t know how to tie knots, you can also use sticky substances such as gum, glue, nail polish, or whatever you can get your hands on. Once you have substantially intertwined the rats, throw them to the wild as a new Rat King to take over the world!
Pro-Tip: All kings need crowns. So be sure to pick your favorite individual rat out of the ball of rats and tape/glue/stick a toy crown on his hand. Your rat will appreciate it as much as all the scared peasants he will command.
But, if you are still here… maybe you want to know how to get a Rat King in Destiny 2..?
Okay, well that’s a completely different story. See, ever since the great Time-War most all organic life has been going steadily extinct on Earth. Trust me, this is definitely legitimate Destiny lore. So you can’t just go whiley-niley hunting rats to tie together, but what you can do is get a crazy-ass sidearm that has gold etched rats all over it as a tribute to all the rats and rat kings that inevitably died during the war with the Daleks, I mean Darkness.
Enter, the Rat King!
Before you can start working on the quest for the Rat King, you need a few preliminary things done. Rat Kings don’t bow to just anyone, ya’know?
- Complete Vanilla Campaign (Save Earth from the sun eating machine in the campaign)
- Get level 20
- Complete Enemy of my Enemy on Titan
Enemy of my Enemy
Alright, lets go over this quest chain. This is a few small quests that go back to back. Thanks to the UI updates that Destiny has had over the year, this quest should pop up as a blue shield on your map.
Step 1: A Visit to Command
- To start, once you beat Ghaul you go and talk to Sloane. She’ll prompt you with the first Enemy of my Enemy quest.
Step 2: Data Requisition
- Titan needs more power to survive, go flip a switch. You’re good at that.
Step 3: Report to Sloane
- You got some intel, hit up your bae Sloane and let her know.
Step 4: Lighting the Dark
- Yep, Fallen are definitely playing with the power. Go make sure they aren’t being rude neighbors.
Step 5: Chances and Choices
- This is my favorite mission in all of Destiny 2, for serious. If you’ve been paying attention, the Fallen are at war with the Hive who are invading their turf. Then you, the Guardian, are now also getting on the Fallen turf to turn more power on. What will the Fallen do as you’re killing through the Hive to get to the switch…?
- Be nice. Don’t shoot first.
- You get the Rat King Crew quest at the end of this mission whether you are nice or not.
Step 6: At Full Power
- Hit up your lady and get some bonus reward stuff.
Rat King‘s Crew
Alright buddy-boi, you done did it. You’ve made a precarious ally with the Fallen (if you were nice…) and have picked up the first Rat King’s Crew step. This series isn’t that difficult, but it can get annoying at times and take a little long. The main deal with this series is that you need to have a buddy who either has the Rat King’s Crew quest step that you are on, is further than you, or has Rat King equipped. This means that either you will slowly get these steps done, you’ll need a buddy to run through this, or check on the Destiny 2 app as there are people running Rat King’s Crew periodically.
The quests are set as riddles, and I will give an overview of each one. Again, make sure that you have a Rat King buddy with you through all the steps or else you won’t progress.
Rat King’s Crew: Riddle 1
“The Rat King’s Crew / Runs to and fro / Good girls and boys / Know where to go / Pick up your toys and darn your socks / On errands of woe, on errands we walk.” — Old Children’s Rhyme
Just do 3 patrols with another Rat King’s Crew buddy or someone with the Rat King equipped. Easy peasy, should be able to knock this one out in 15 minutes. If you’re doing the whole chain with a buddy, just do 3 patrols on Titan. If you see Patrols with a reticle looking icon that means that they are a “Kill Quest” and are super quick, always pick these up!
Rat King’s Crew: Riddle 2
“The Rat King’s Crew / Goes arm in arm / To fight as one / To do no harm / So have your fun and run outside / Rally the flag and we’ll never die.” — Old Children’s Rhyme
Just do 2 Public Events with a buddy. I suggest doing them on the Flashpoint planet, ’cause why not? If you aren’t maxed on Ghost Fragments then Tangled Shore is always a popping place. Nessus and EDZ always have an event as well.
Be sure to be with a Rat King buddy.
Rat King’s Crew: Riddle 3
“The Rat King’s Crew / Goes four and four / With good good fights / They learn to score / Then three as one they stand upright / Return from past the wall and wanting more.” — Old Children’s Rhyme
2 Crucible matches with a Rat King buddy. You’d think that having to do stuff with a buddy working for the Rat King as well would be annoying, but guess what? The Rat King is better when you have buddies anyway, so it makes sense.
Rat King’s Crew: Riddle 4
“The Rat King’s Crew / Stands three as one / They see Night’s fall / And fear it none / But watch the clock as you scale the wall / Lest five remain hope comes for none.” — Old Children’s Rhyme
This one has been updated and fixed since initial launch. Originally you had to do a Nightfall and hit a score modifier with Rat King buddies, now you just have to finish a Nightfall. This one isn’t nearly as bad as it used to be. Again, make sure that you are with someone either on this quest step or already has the Rat King and has it equipped.
Rat King’s Crew: Complete – Profit
You got it! After finishing the Nightfall with a Rat King buddy, you’ll get the Rat King. This is personally one of my favorite weapons and I don’t give a damn. I use this on my Hunter with Gemini Jesters and invis dodge. I’m able to run up in the middle of adds, dodge and blind them with Gemini Jester then pop out kill a few reload and go back to invisibility. This is a crazy fun weapon and can make stupid good Gambit strategies. With the Rat King I can seriously solo entire waves.
It takes a little to get used to, but once you do you may love it. The reload on it is slightly too slow so I suggest you put on a Sidearm Loader, this makes it feel “just right” on reload and you can go invis super snappy. Other than that, to get the bonus damage you need Rat King buddies in close proximity, their proximity has been tweaked since originally and is much closer than it used to be.
As always, let me know what you think about the Rat King and this guide fambam! I’ll be secretly playing my sneakyboi Hunter in Gambit killing with it while you do…
