What’s up fambam, Kerdack here to let you in on how good Horror Story is!

To get this auto rifle from Festival of the Lost you’ve gotta get 120 souls (the Spooktober event tokens). This really isn’t that bad, you get 5-8 tokens just by running the Haunted Forest with scrubs. In addition, you can do special Spooktober bounties from Amanda Holliday, after you do 15 dailies you get 40 tokens from her weekly bounty.

The grind isn’t that bad, and this weapon comes in at light level 600. I was able to nab this bad boi on the third day when I finished the weekly quest all while having tons of shit in life happening. So you could get it in 1 day of hella grinding.

But is Horror Story guuuud?

Eh…?

It’s an auto rifle, through and through. It’s a “good” auto rifle for sure, but still an auto rifle. I’m not a guy who likes auto rifles, and the whole time I was using it wanted to go back to my Militia’s Birthright. But, I’m not gonna let my bias falter the review and gonna tell you what’s what, and where it’s good.

So what is up with this auto rifle?

I tell you what, this rifle has a lot of application. First of all, if you like Tigerspite but only get shit rolls, you’ll love this. It is the same archetype as the Tigerspite and Horror Story is curated to be a good roll. It also is a legendary primary slot, that means that you can have a good well-rounded weapon in primary without taking an exotic slot.

Is it worth the grind?

I’d say yes. It is a full light level 600, it will raise your overall light level. It also pairs really well with the Fighting Lions which you also get from this event.

Where it REALLY shines is PVP.

Using Horror Story in PVE, I was boooooored. It’s just another version of Origin Story. And I struggled to maintain Rampage with it’s small mag size of 32 when I had a bunch of adds hitting me. But PVP? Oh gawd. Shit-dawg, there were multiple occasions that I got trip kills after proccing Rampage and just wiped those scrubs. With its perk layout it is handsdown a PVP weapon. Pair this sucker with a sniper and sword and you are a mean-killing-machine.

It also handles really well in Blind Well. Since that is a controlled environment and everyone is gathered up, you are able to maintain Rampage through the adds. But don’t expect it to help burn the bosses.

How does the perk roll work together?

Again, I’m gonna go: “eh….?” Look, the perks are good. You get Flared Magwell for faster reload, Zen Moment for stability, Rampage for extra damage, and a Reload Speed Masterwork. This builds into a very reliable and straight shooting auto rifle. But damn, I wish it didn’t have Zen Moment, that just seems like over kill. I’d rather see something like Outlaw to help maintain Rampage.

But the gun is good. That is where it ends… It’s good. It’s not great, it’s not “best-in-slot“, it’s not exciting… It’s just a really good auto rifle.I don’t want that to sound like a bad thing, It’s better than most the crap rolls on Tigersbite you’ll be seeing, but I promise you can get a better Tigerspite roll eventually.

And that’s what it should be.

An event weapon shouldn’t be “PERFECTOMGBESTINSLOT“, that would be lame. But it is a good weapon that you can use in 9 out of 10 situations and do very well with.

I have two buddies who are using this gun and just loving it. And I understand why. Don’t think I’m hating on this gun, I’m just being real. Don’t grind this expecting it to be some crazy exciting new gun, it isn’t that. It is just a “good” auto rifle.

  • You like auto rifles? You’ll like Horror Story.
  • You like reliable weapons? You’ll like Horror Story.
  • You need a gun with manageable recoil? You’ll like Horror Story.

What about Weapon Mods?

Now this is something that excited me. There isn’t a perfect mod for this gun!

Legit fellas, this gun holds its own without a mod. That means you can mod it however you want! I chose to put on Backup Mag (which raised it from 32 shots to 36 shots) to try to help out Rampage. But you can easily do Target Adjuster for zoom stickiness, Icarus Grip if you’re a jumpy hunter, Minor Spec for extra add damage or so-on. I am personally thinking about switching to Freehand Grip, ’cause this gun is so stable that I can easily get hip fire kills.

So yes, grind that Horror Story. If nothing else it’s a Triumph and a free Light Level 600. Then try it out and see if you like it. I honestly think 50% of Guardians will really dig this weapon. I’m just a crazy Militia’s Birthright kind of guy.
